Dodgeball History

Although its original history is not well-known, there are several versions that state this game has been around since World War II. It is also believed to have been played in Africa over two hundred years ago. Initially, dodgeball was played using stones or rotten wood as projectiles. This might have been the case because balls were not available at that time.

In modern times, the sport of dodgeball is played at various levels worldwide. The establishment of the World Dodgeball Association on October 22, 2013, has rapidly expanded the reach of this sport globally. Currently, 57 countries are members under the WDA. The WDA’s objective is to introduce dodgeball to the Olympic and Paralympic Games within the next 12-16 years.

In Malaysia, there was once a game introduced called “Bola Beracun”. The concept is similar, where one player throws the ball and the opposing players try to dodge it. If a player is hit by the ball, they are eliminated. If a player on one side throws the ball and someone from the opposing side catches it, the thrower is out.

Recognizing this, the Malaysia Dodgeball Federation (MDF) was officially established on January 4, 2016, to further promote the sport of dodgeball at all levels throughout Malaysia and has taken the initiative to scout young players. The MDF is taking appropriate measures to introduce this sport by organizing Dodgeball Sports Clinics at various levels. To ensure dodgeball is introduced at every level, MDF has outlined a program of clinics and open training sessions for dodgeball skills throughout Malaysia according to designated zones.

Federation Status

The Malaysia Dodgeball Federation (MDF) was established in October 2015 in Shah Alam, Selangor. The federation’s formation was spearheaded by the founding president, Nozieka Faisal @ Nojizatul Abdul Kadir, and consists of seven other steering committee members.

The idea for establishing a dodgeball federation in Malaysia was driven by the intent to develop dodgeball as a high-performance sport in the country. MDF is the official governing body for dodgeball in Malaysia. It collaborates and is formally recognized by the global governing body known as the World Dodgeball Association.

MDF oversees all aspects of the sport, organizing championships throughout the country and sending teams and representatives to international tournaments and events.

The esteemed leadership of YB Datuk Wira Mas Ermieyati Samsudin is undeniable. Her role as the first president was a source of great pride. A significant milestone for MDF occurred on January 4th, 2016, when the federation was officially registered under the sports commissioner.

However, in June 2022, YB Datuk Wirra Mas Ermieyati had to resign from her position as the president due to her busy schedule and commitments as a Member of Parliament. Following her resignation, the founder and deputy president of MDF, Nozieka Faisal, took over the role, starting on June 11th, 2022.
